Kanchan Mehendale

am a self-taught artist based in Singapore. I had a dream to create artworks to visually delight, communicate with and
invoke thoughts in the viewer. The journey that I began in 2008, wasn't easy and I can recollect at least a handful of
paintings that I physically discarded after being dissatisfied with them! Years of practice, pouring over art books, learning
about colour theories, depth and perspectives as well as tons of experimenting has helped me build knowledge and
understanding of some of the aspects of art. I have worked on several themes, tried different styles and worked with
multiple mediums. I enjoy working with acrylics, oils as well as watercolours and have used painting knives extensively in
some of my oil works.
I paint instinctively and from the heart. I usually begin with a simple emotion or belief and portray it on a canvas. My
inspirations are mostly from nature, people, our emotions, things we see and what we revere.
I work with a variety of subjects – figurative, landscapes, cityscapes, still life, cultural etc. Some of the series of paintings I
have worked on are
 Architectural watercolours – this series covers sites from different cities.
 Women wearing masks – each painting has a story for the viewer.
 Chess and Horses – These paintings combine a game of the mind with the elegance of horses.
 Love – This series depicts love in different forms. I have emoted love in various forms using animal and human
figures.
 Fire and Ice – This is one of my favourite series which shows the different nature of human beings using warm and
cool colours / light effects.
 Black and white pen and wash paintings – I love the charm and elegance of black and white artworks and keep
revisiting these. I have done multiple black and white acrylic / watercolour ink and wash paintings.
I have successfully participated in some fairs as well as group exhibitions. Group exhibitions I have participated in –
